Hard Numbers: Qatar Airways sues, Twitter shuts down QAnon, Rohingyas spared the cane, global development aid falls

5 billion: Qatar Airways is suing Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, demanding at least $5 billion in damages resulting from the four countries' ongoing blockade of Qatar.

7,000: Twitter has taken down more than 7,000 accounts linked to the QAnon conspiracy theory group, and removed QAnon links shared by more than 150,000 profiles. QAnon followers believe that US President Donald Trump, a major Twitter user himself, is fighting a secret war against a left-wing elite "deep state" of Satan-worshipping pedophiles.

27: A Malaysian court has overturned a sentence of jail and caning for 27 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar who were convicted of entering the country illegally last month. Corporal punishment is still on the books in Malaysia, a relic of the country's British colonial past that also persists in Brunei and Singapore.

1/3: Official development assistance commitments by donor countries dropped by more than one third to $16.9 billion in the first five months of the year compared to the same period of 2019. The sharp decline — attributed to budget-tightening in major donor countries in response to the COVID-19 pandemic — threatens highly vulnerable people who need this assistance throughout the developing world.
