What's the importance of the upcoming elections in Turkey on May the 14th? What happened with the drone attack on the Kremlin? Carl Bildt, co-chair of the European Council on Foreign Relations and former prime minister of Sweden, shares his perspective on European politics (this week from Arizona.)

What's the importance of the upcoming elections in Turkey on May the 14th?

Well, huge. The direction that Turkey is going to take in the next few years, be that in economic terms - they have a mess in terms of economic policy, be that their security policy versus Russia, relationship with Europe, position in the Middle East, is going to impact hugely on the entire region. So much is at stake. It is a very tight race. In all probability, there will be a second round on May the 28th.

What happened with the drone attack on the Kremlin?

We simply don't know. There are lots of theories around. I think it's less likely that it came from Ukraine. I think it's likely that it came from someone nearby. Might have been Russian dissident groups. We simply don't know. What we do know is that it is hugely embarrassing to President Putin. With his upcoming May 9th big parade on the Red Square and the policy announcements expected there, I think he's in a rather difficult situation. Let's see what he has to say on May 9th. A rather tense situation, not the least in Moscow.

The United States is #winning. But while the short-term picture looks strong, the United States is systematically trading long-term strategic advantages for more immediate tactical gains, with the accumulating costs hiding in plain sight.

Who really shapes and influences the development of AI? The creators or the users? Peng Xiao, Group CEO, G42 argues it’s both. “I actually do not subscribe that the creators have so much control they can program every intent into this technology so users can only just respond and be part of that design,” he explains at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Global AI Summit.
