Coronavirus can cause serious illness in children too

As the number of coronavirus infections has exploded across the world, a common narrative has emerged that children are less susceptible to the disease, or that it impacts them in only very mild ways. But Pulitzer-prize winning science writer Laurie Garrett says that may not, in fact, be the case. New data out of China, she says, indicates that some children have gotten seriously sick, and a few have even died as a result. Children may also be extremely effective carriers of the virus even without showing symptoms, which will likely only further inflame the spread of the virus.
