3: Al-Shabab militants attacked an airstrip in Kenya used by the US military, killing three Americans – one US service member and two Defense Department contractors. The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab has recently waged a string of attacks near the Kenya-Somali border.
30: An airstrike on a military school in Tripoli, Libya's capital, killed at least 30 people, mostly students. Fighting between the self-appointed Libyan National Army and militias loosely allied with the UN-supported government escalated after the Tripoli-based government signed a military agreement with Turkey.
15.6 million: Australia's deadly bushfires have already burned more than 15.6 million acres of land. That's an area as large as West Virginia, and more than six times the size of last year's fires in the Amazon. In the Australian state of Victoria, three fires have combined to form a single blaze bigger than the New York borough of Manhattan.
100,000: Over 100,000 protestors took part in a peaceful rally in the Indian city of Hyderabad against Prime Minister Modi's citizenship law, which eases the path to Indian citizenship for non-Muslim minorities from neighboring countries. About 40 percent of Hyderabad's 7 million residents are Muslims.
