Hard Numbers

Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen clicked past the 1000 day mark last week. Here are some other long running conflicts that don’t seem to have any end in sight.

2,031: days since the Syrian civil war officially began, according to the UN. During that period, 5,306,503 Syrians have registered for refugee status.

5,932: days that the US has been at war in Afghanistan — it’s the longest running war in US history, and as Trump grapples with the stubborn resilience of ISIS in the country, it doesn’t looklike the ticker will stop any time soon.

24,664: days since start of Korean war, which still hasn’t legally ended. This is part of the reason why Kim Jong-un wants — and seemingly will not be deterred from getting — a nuclear arsenal that can reliably hit the United States.
