What is the fallout from the US killing of Qassem Suleimani?
Well, at least in markets, the fallout is relatively muted. Gold rose, oil rose, but stocks have taken it in stride. I think there is a hope that there will not be widespread escalation after this. But risk levels are much higher.
Did US allies support the strike?
No, they didn't. They didn't even know about it. The UK in particular, our oldest and closest ally, suggested that they had no idea this was happening. So, this was obviously a unilateral action by President Trump.
What's going to be the fallout from Iraq's decision to try to expel U.S. troops?
I'm not sure they're going to actually expel them. President Trump has said he won't take them out unless Iraq pays us back a lot of money. I think it may blow over. I don't think US troops are leaving Iraq anytime soon.
