Yes, at Enbridge we believe pipelines are critical for delivering energy. We’re working with an innovative partner to further enhance the safety, integrity, and sustainability of energy pipelines. The technology Smartpipe® is a high-strength, composite piping system embedded with fiber optic sensors. It helps modernize existing pipeline systems and is deployed through a trenchless installation method that reduces the need for land excavation. In addition to improving safety, Smartpipe’s technology can help repurpose existing pipelines to support the energy transition. Learn more here.

Enbridge and Six Nations Energy Development LP have joined forces to advance a 200-megawatt wind energy project in Saskatchewan. The Seven Stars Energy Project will produce emissions-free energy to support an estimated 100,000 homes. The project is Enbridge’s first Indigenous partnership in wind energy and the first Indigenous partnership in the province. Six Nations, a consortium of Indigenous groups from Saskatchewan, will have the opportunity to acquire equity ownership of at least 30% of the project, supported by loan guarantees of up to $100 million from the Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation. In many Indigenous cultures, the number seven symbolizes unity and completeness. For Enbridge and six First Nation and Métis communities, the number has gained added significance with the announcement of the Seven Stars Energy Project. This 200-megawatt wind energy project in southwest Saskatchewan is expected to produce emissions-free energy for more than 100,000 homes. It marks Enbridge’s first Indigenous partnership in wind energy and the province’s first such partnership. Six Nations can acquire at least 30% equity, supported by up to $100 million in loan guarantees from the Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation. Learn more.

“The energy evolution requires a practical approach,” said Greg Ebel, Enbridge’s president & CEO, at the US-Canada Summit hosted by Eurasia Group and BMO in Toronto on Tuesday. “It’s about modernizing existing infrastructure to improve efficiency and transport low-carbon fuels; utilizing natural gas to support growing electrification and intermittent renewables; and using energy transition investments to advance economic reconciliation. That’s the recipe for success. That’s what we’re doing at Enbridge.” Learn more.

Pipelines carry the energy that powers our modern lives. Enbridge is working with an innovative technology partner, Smartpipe®, to ensure safety and reliability and reduce emissions. “Across much of the United States, the public doesn’t have an appetite for more energy infrastructure. That’s a problem for economic growth, energy affordability, and the climate,” says Enbridge CEO & President Greg Ebel. Increasingly, Ebel shared, voices on both sides of the debate are acknowledging the need to build and maintain energy infrastructure that moves us closer to achieving our climate and energy goals. Read more from Enbridge’s chief executive on how communities need to prioritize progress over perfection to make real gains toward a cleaner future.
