The coronavirus pandemic has affected the entire world, but some countries have suffered much higher death tolls than others — particularly in Europe, the US, and Latin America. This is due to a range of factors: Europe has a generally older population, which is more vulnerable to the disease; the healthcare systems in Latin America are relatively weak; and incompetent government responses in Brazil and the US drove up the number of infections and, accordingly, deaths. Here are the top 10 countries where COVID-19 has claimed the largest share of the population among the 20 with most fatalities overall, with a look at each nation's infection rate alongside that.
